Oslo
The capital of the Kingdom of Norway and the oldest of the Scandinavian capitals, Oslo is surrounded by a large forested area, and situated close to the impressive Oslofjord. The city’s mix of medieval and modern architecture give it a unique feel and sights like the Royal Palace and the Parliament Building are not to be missed. Oslo offers many museums and parks including the popular Vigeland sculpture park. Bergen
Bergen is set on a peninsula between seven snow-capped mountains and near Norway’s longest fjord, Sognefjord. The city is great to explore on foot, and it’s charming wharf area boasts rows of colourful timber buildings and cobblestone streets that make for excellent photo opportunities. The city’s fish-market also bears witness to an important past as a trading post of the Hanseatic League and Bergen’s Hanseatic Museum presents the history of this trade period. Fjord Cruise
One of the things that Norway is best known for are its impressive fjords. These long, narrow sea inlets have steep sides and were originally formed by glaciers. The country’s longest fjord is 205 kilometres long and is nicknamed ‘the King of the Fjords’. On our holidays to Norway, we’ll have the opportunity to explore one of these natural wonders by boat with a two hour fjord cruise along the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nærøyfjord. Sailing down the deep blue water with towering mountain peaks looming over us, we’ll be in awe of nature’s incredible beauty.
Hardangerfjord
Just south of the city of Bergen, Hardangerfjord is Norway’s second largest fjord at 179 kilometres long and arguably one of the country’s most picturesque. Once sailed upon by Vikings, this fjord not only has an interesting history, but boasts impressive natural features including glaciers and waterfalls. It is one of the most famous fjords of Norway, and originally became a tourist destination in 1875, when weekly cruises began running between the fjord and London. On our holidays to Norway, we’ll enjoy a full day excursion driving along the Hardangerfjord to Hardanger.
